Ronald C. Hill accepted the pastoral call on his life while employed as a chaplain at the Union Rescue Mission on “skid row” in downtown Los Angeles, California. In November, 1981 with his wife, their four young children, and only a few church members, the Love and Unity Church was born. Love and Unity’s humble beginnings were in a small room inside a local Seventh-Day Adventist church in the city of Lynwood, CA. The room rented for $35 each Sunday. Yet adhering to the Word of God, and in everything giving thanks unto God; the saints continued to worship and praise God for that one-room with a fireplace. Pastor Hill believed wholeheartedly in God’s Word and through prayer and faith knew that God would open the door for a more accommodating place of worship in the future for His people as they remained faithful to God.
The congregation, along with Pastor Hill, continued to pray and believe God, and approximately six months later God provided a new location for the ministry at Long Beach Blvd. and Agnes in the city of Lynwood, CA bordering Compton,CA. It was a 3-room store front building which included one restroom facility; seating approximately 60 people in the main room and approximately 30 children in the second, smaller room which served as Children’s Church. While on Long Beach Blvd. the church family continued to pray and believe God for more souls, Holy Ghost power, and finance to sow into the ministry. Moreover, God blessed Pastor Hill to teach and preach the gospel each Sunday morning to a standing room only congregation.
As the glory of God was continuing to manifest, approximately eight months later, a prophecy came forth revealing that a new site would soon be necessary. The prophecy was fulfilled and the church family relocated to the Ramada Inn in Carson, California. Love and Unity was truly a family in Christ, in that the church organ had to be shuttled between the Ramada Inn and Pastor Hill’s home and back again for church services by faithful volunteers each Sunday morning and Sunday evening. Weekly bible studies were held at Pastor’s home where simultaneously Lady Hill taught all the children in the den, ministering to their precious souls. Prayer meetings were held weekly on Monday nights from house to house; notwithstanding numerous challenges, the saints held on to their faith and stood on the promises of God.
And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. Matthew 21:22 KJV
Four months after renting space at the Carson Ramada Inn, in 1983, the Lord honored the sacrifice and hard work of the congregation by favoring them again by blessing them with their official church home located at 1717 N. Bullis Road in the city of Compton, CA. Through fasting and prayer, hard work and faith in God, they were able to raise the $24,000 down payment necessary to purchase the $94,000 site. The ministry continued to grow and in 1987, God enabled Pastor Hill and the Love and Unity congregation to secure the $110,000 down payment required for the purchase of a yet larger building at 357 East Palmer Street also in the city of Compton. The building, formerly a banquet and party facility, was renovated, transformed into a beautiful sanctuary, and dedicated by the Love and Unity church family to the glory and honor of God. The saints glorified God at their new home and the Lord blessed His house. Soon it was necessary to hold two morning worship services to accommodate the saints growing numbers. As souls were saved and the membership steadily grew, Pastor Hill and the congregation began to seek God’s guidance for an even larger building. In the meantime, the saints being led by and trusting in the Word of God, fasted, prayed, consistently paid their tithes, and gave liberal offerings. They held many shut-ins as a sacrificial offering to the Father, believing in the prophecy and vision for a larger church home.
Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. I Thessalonians 5:16, 17, 18 KJV
By Faith.....Sunday, April 24, 2005 marked the day that God blessed Pastor Hill, the Hill family, and the Love and Unity Church family to march into their new home christened The Born Again Center; located at 1840 S. Wilmington Avenue, in the beautiful city of Compton, CA. This over 46,000 square foot, multi-million dollar, state-of-the-art facility houses: the main sanctuary- seating for 1,100, multiple classrooms, chapel, café, an exercise room, call center, executive offices and many more amenities. No small feat, the money raised for this project came directly from Pastor Hill teaching the people from the Word of God to pay their tithes and give liberal offerings. During the building process, the Lord led Pastor Hill to place two signs in the sanctuary that stated, “Lovers and Givers Are Big Time Livers” and “By Faith We Can Do This!” This five-year journey greatly tested the faith of Pastor Hill and the congregation. There were numerous obstacles to be conquered along the way, “but the just shall live by faith”, and because the saints believed and stood firm on the promises of God, BY FAITH WE DID IT!
In September of 2009 after a long season of much fasting and continual prayer to God, Pastor Hill received a visitation and revelation from God through the Holy Spirit to transition out of the Church of God In Christ, Inc.; yet not out of the body of Christ. Hence, with a unanimous vote of confidence from the local congregation the church voted to reincorporate under the name Love and Unity Christian Fellowship. Pastor Hill continues to pursue and fulfill the same mission as Christ, preaching the gospel and seeking to save those that are lost and welcome them into the body of Christ. The manifestation of Gods’ promises continues to abide upon the Love and Unity ministry and its founding leader, Apostle, Ronald C. Hill.
To God be the Glory for the great things He has done and will continue to do through His yielded vessels.
